Court Halts Multi-Million Dollar Work-At-Home Coaching Scam

A federal court has ordered a halt to another deceptive work at home scheme that conned millions of dollars from consumers who bought into the bogus operation. On February 24, at the request of the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”), a U.S. District Court in Utah froze the assets of the defendants, pending the outcome of preliminary injunction hearing scheduled for March 20. The commission seeks to put a permanent stop to the operations and return money to consumers. The FTC charged nine individuals and fourteen corporate defendants, who operated under several business names, including Essent Media, LLC, Net Training, LLC, YES International, Coaching Department, and Apply Knowledge, with violations under Section 5 of the FTC Act and additional violations under the Telemarketing Sales Rule (“TSR”).
