FTC Halted Federal Job Scammers who Violated Rule

The Federal Trade Commission’s (“FTC”) efforts to protect consumers, particularly those in financial distress and struggling with debt and unemployment, have uncovered scams of all sorts, all involving bogus claims or promises for a price. One nationwide scheme offered help to consumers for a $69.00 fee, but the program was available to the general public for free. Frontier Publishing, doing business as American Data Group, advertised in local newspapers and employment websites, claiming access to exclusive information and resources for all federal jobs available in their geographic area. Consumers who called the toll-free number were targeted and charged for information pertaining to federal government jobs (job listings that the US federal government provides for free on their own employment site), but did not give them enough information to actually be able to apply for the job
