FTC Report to Congress- Data Brokers Need More Transparency, Consumers Need More Control

According to a recently published report, the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) says Congress should enact legislation that requires the data broker industry to disclose more information about themselves and the data they collect. Legislation should require data brokers to give consumers access to their data and should require data brokers to disclose the names or categories of their data sources, the FTC said. The Commission wants to "lift the veil of secrecy that clouds the data broker industry," said FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez.
