Global Data Breach Investigation Shows E-Commerce Leader in Cybersecurity Attacks

According to security firm Trustwave, a provider of cloud-based compliance and information security solutions, nearly every industry, country, and type of data was involved in a breach of some kind in 2012. The recently released 2013 Global Security Report from Trustwave includes extensive data-based insight into cyber criminal activities and practical recommendations that businesses can implement as protective measures against increasing cybersecurity threats. Highlighting details and trends from more than 450 global data breach investigations, 2,500 penetration tests, nine million Web application attacks, two million network and vulnerability scans, five million malicious websites, and 20 billion emails, the report found that electronic commerce sites were the number one targeted asset accounting for 48 percent of all investigations with mobile applications heading the list as the most popular attack route.
