Last week, Mozilla announced that it will be implementing a new feature that will allow the Firefox 22 browser to block cookies from third-party advertisers by default. Many privacy conscious users are happy and many advertisers are not.
The new policy is expected to be released by June 25 and will prevent ad networks from tracking users' browser activity, a move Mike Zaneis, the Interactive Advertising Bureau's senior vice president, called a "nuclear first strike."
Mozilla will be following the lead of Apple's Safari, which also blocks third-party cookies by default. "The new Firefox policy is a slightly relaxed version of the Safari policy," said Stanford University graduate student, Jonathan Mayer.
