Can you Explain the Unsubscribe Process and What is Needed in a Commercial Email?
The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 requires either a return email address or an internet based mechanism to allow a consumer to notify the sender of a commercial email that they do not wish to receive further commercial emails from that sender. Today, most companies use an internet based mechanism which registers the consumers email address in real time and places it automatically on a suppression list. Any delay in suppression is a result of publishers waiting to scrub against a senders suppression list between mailings. Senders have ten days after the consumers request in which to suppress the consumers email address. After ten days, Senders can be subjected to investigation and fines.
