What are the Penalties in the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule?
The FTC is charged under COPPA with enforcement of the Rule and has been stepping up its efforts. Civil penalties can be up to $16,000 per violation. In addition, companies can also be held liable for unfair and deceptive practices under Section 5 of the FTC Act, with penalties up to $11,000 per violation.
