What is a D/B/A ("Doing Business As" or "Fictitious Business Name")?
D/B/A is an acronym for "Doing Business As" also known as a "Fictitious Business Name." A D/B/A is a trade name or a fictitious business name which a company may use to do business as instead of its actual (true) name. If a company uses a D/B/A or fictitious name, however, the D/B/A or fictitious name cannot include the words incorporated or LLC or any an abbreviation thereof in it’s name. The D/B/A name or fictitious business name must be registered in the State that the company is registered to do business.
