Texas Data Broker
The Texas Data Broker law was signed by the Governor on June 18, 2023, which became the third data broker law after Vermont and California. The law requires registration and stringent regulations for data brokers, with the act effective September 1, 2023. It does not apply to deidentified data, employee data, publicly available information, inferences derived from multiple independent sources, or data subject to the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. The Act does not apply to service providers processing employee data for third-party employers, persons or entities collecting personal data from another person or entity, governmental entities, nonprofits, consumer reporting agencies, and financial institutions.
