FTC Amends Fair Packaging and Labeling Act Rules

September 28, 2015

The Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) has updated its rules under the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (“FPLA”) to enhance product labeling for consumer transparency. Following a public comment period in early 2015, the FTC adopted amendments that modernize the requirements for place-of-business listings to include online resources, remove outdated marketing terms, and introduce a more detailed metric chart. However, certain product categories remain exempt from these regulations, including meat, poultry, tobacco, and items under the jurisdiction of other federal agencies. These changes aim to simplify labeling and improve consumer comparisons across products.
