FTC Strengthens Kids' Privacy, Gives Parents Greater Control Over Their Information By Amending Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule

The Federal Trade Commission announced it has finalized updates to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule, enhancing safeguards for children's privacy and empowering parents with more control over what personal information websites can collect from kids under 13. Initiated in 2010, the review aimed to align the COPPA Rule with advancements in technology and children's online habits, such as increased mobile device usage and social media engagement. These revisions, informed by extensive public input including roundtables and comments, ensure the rule remains effective in safeguarding children's online privacy.
