European data collection authorities are preparing to take action against Google after the company failed to meet a commitment deadline to change its privacy policy regarding collection, combination, and storage of its users' personal information.
Last year Google consolidated 60 privacy policies into one agreement, combining data collected on individual users across its sites to potentially better target advertising. It comes as no surprise that the already strict EU data regulators view Google’s action as potentially high risk to people’s privacy. In October, Europe’s 27 data authorities gave Google four months to change its policy, which accumulates user data from all its services including YouTube, Gmail and social network Google+ without giving users the choice to opt-out.
