Residents of Newark, New Jersey now have a direct line they can call to with a question or complaint about consumer financial products or services directly to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Consumer Response team.
The CFPB announced the pilot program on February 7. It is the first of its kind that gives city residents an immediate, direct connection to the federal agency, which will screen complaints to see if they are complete, fall within the agency’s jurisdiction and aren’t duplicative.
Complaints over the hotline that meet the criteria will then be sent to the responding company for review and a response demanded. You will have 15 days to respond. Be sure you respond. All but the most complicated complaints are expected to close within 60 days. Consumers can log into the CFPB’s website to check the status of their complaint and to provide feedback regarding the company’s response.
