Google Money Tree Defendant to Pay $26.9 Million for Trying to Hide Assets

A federal court has imposed the full monetary judgment against a former “Google Money Tree” scammer who tried to hide his assets from the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) when he agreed to a 2010 settlement. The 2010 settlement agreement banned Jonathan Eborn and other individual and corporate codefendants, including Infusion Media and others doing business as “Google Money Tree,” “Google Pro” and “Google Treasure Chest” from negative option marketing and from making misrepresentations to consumers. At the time, they surrendered more than $3.5 million in cash and other assets. In 2012, the FTC returned more than $2 million to consumers who became victims of the work-at-home scammers who, falsely promising potential earnings of $100,000 in six months. The scammers lured consumers into divulging their financial account information and, without disclosing that they would do so, charged the consumers’ accounts $72.21 a month.
