In a news conference last week, Senator Charles E. Schumer announced that he is introducing legislation to increase the penalties against telemarketing companies that violate the current Federal "Do Not Call" rules.
The New York Senator says spammers are taking advantage of new technology and legal loopholes. The proposed legislation will increase the penalties for “robocalling” to a whopping $20,000 for each violation and would make the use of automated dialing machines go from being a misdemeanor with a small fine and no jail time to a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
