Clearview AI nears settlement on BIPA class action

Clearview AI is in final negotiations on a class-action settlement over Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act claims, MediaPost reports. Plaintiffs reported to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois the two sides discussed "numerous drafts of the term sheet over the past week" and talks have reached a point where "they have settled on a framework" for a deal.

Poll: Americans want federal regulation of AI

A poll of 1,001 registered U.S. voters conducted by the Artificial Intelligence Policy Institute found the majority want federal regulation of AI, ZDNet reports. Fifty-six percent of those polled support federal regulation and 82% said they do not trust technology leaders to tackle regulation independently. Sixty-two percent reported concerns about AI, with 86% saying they believe it could "accidentally cause a catastrophic event."
