Kenya orders Worldcoin to cease iris scans, preserve collected data

TechCrunch reports the High Court of Kenya barred cryptocurrency startup Worldcoin from collecting Kenyans' data and directed the company to preserve information collected from 19 April to 8 Aug. The action follows a petition filed by Kenya's Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, which ordered Worldcoin's parent company, Tools for Humanity, to stop iris scans and personal data collection in May.Full story

Jordan closer to finalizing data protection law

The Jordan News reports the Parliament of Jordan's lower house approved the proposed Data Protection Law. The bill will apply to covered entities retroactively and establish a regulator, the Personal Data Protection Council, within the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship. The bill would take effect six months after being published in the Official Gazette of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.Full story

FTC fines consumer credit company $650K for not offering email opt-out

Under a proposed order with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, consumer credit reporting company Experian Consumer Services will pay USD650,000 and ensure consumers are offered a way to opt-out of marketing messages. A complaint filed by the U.S. Department of Justice, on behalf of the FTC, claims Experian spammed consumers with unsolicited emails after they registered for an account to manage their credit information.
