LinkedIn prevails in 6-year lawsuit against data scraper

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California sided with LinkedIn in its six year lawsuit against a firm that scraped data from the professional social network, Adweek reports. The firm hiQ Labs “relied on LinkedIn for its data primarily by scraping wholly public LinkedIn profiles using automated software,” Judge Edward Chen wrote in his decision.

SolarWinds agrees to tentative $26M settlement over data breach

In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, SolarWinds said it has tentatively agreed to pay $26 million to settle a lawsuit over its cybersecurity disclosures ahead of a December 2020 breach that exposed the data of thousands of companies and government offices, Reuters reports. CPPA sets latest consultation on CPRA draft regulations

The California Privacy Protection Agency launched a 15-day comment period on the modified California Privacy Rights Act draft regulations. The period will run through Nov. 21. The initiation of the public consultation follows the CPPA Board's formal approval of modified draft regulations Oct. 29, where board members indicated final regulations will potentially be in place before the end of the year.

Italian cell customer data breached; Pharmaceutical maker left internal server credentials exposed

  • Vodafone Italia announced a commercial partner suffered a data breach that exposed customers’ personally identifiable information, Bleeping Computer reports. The partner, FourB, sustained the cyberattack in September. Vodafone Italia said while user passwords and coverage were not compromised, customers were at a greater risk of being targeted in phishing attacks.
