ANPD seeks feedback on high-risk data processing guidance

Brazil's data protection authority, the Autoridade Nacional de Proteção de Dados, seeks stakeholder feedback on potential guidelines for processing high-risk personal data. The ANPD's intention with the guidance is to "assist small processing agents in the evaluation of the processing of personal data carried out by them." The two-part questionnaire for feedback is aimed at processing agents and the general public. The comment deadline is Sept.

Apple CPO Horvath plans to resign

Bloomberg reports Apple Chief Privacy Officer Jane Horvath, CIPP/G, CIPP/US, is leaving the company to join law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. Horvath's planned departure has yet to be made public, but an unnamed source at Apple indicated Horvath disclosed her intentions in an internal memo. She was promoted to CPO last year after previously serving as Apple's senior director of global privacy.Full Story

Federal Council of Switzerland paves way for implementation of revised Data Protection Act

Switzerland’s revised Data Protection Act will take full effect Sept. 1, 2023, following a decision by the Federal Council. The LPD contains two provisions, the updated Data Protection Ordinances and Data Protection Certifications, that will be implemented as part of the law. Prior to adoption, the OPDo was “thoroughly revised” to include updates to the obligations of data controllers regarding rights of access.

Report highlights key features of metaverse for US Congress to debate

The U.S. Congressional Research Service compiled a report, “The Metaverse: Concepts and Issues for Congress,” and presents several policy issues for lawmakers to consider. The report detailed how technologies such as augmented reality, mixed reality and virtual reality could be innovative in a number of capacities, including entertainment, health care, military and engineering.

Taking stock of the US state privacy landscape

In 2022, lawmakers in 29 states and the District of Columbia either introduced data privacy bills or had bills carry over from the prior legislative session. New Zealand explores data collection notification requirement updates

New Zealand's Ministry of Justice announced a public consultation on potential amendments to data collection notification provisions under the Privacy Act 2020. The ministry is seeking changes to cover "when an agency collects their personal information indirectly through a third party" in an effort to promote further transparency. The proposed changes are touted as helping New Zealand keep "up to date with privacy laws and best practice in overseas jurisdictions" with a specific note to supporting cross-border data flows.
