Vermont Data Broker
Vermont enacted House Bill Number 764 in May of 2018, regulating how data brokers collect and sell consumer data. The bill requires data brokers to pay a $100 fee annually and disclose information about data collection practices and opt-out policies. It also mandates companies to implement adequate security measures against data breaches, prohibits the acquisition of personal information with the intent to commit wrongful acts, and prohibits credit reporting agencies from charging consumers for security freezes. The provisions took effect on January 1, 2019.
