FTC consumer protection director addresses 'surveillance economy'

UK-US adequacy finalized, takes effect 12 Oct.

U.K. Parliament approved secondary regulations to finalize a U.K.-U.S. adequacy agreement. The agreement and complementary regulations to facilitate U.K.-U.S. data transfers will take effect 12 Oct. The approval follows recent U.K. actions toward finalization and the initial commitment between the U.K. and the U.S. as part of a broader digital policy agreement in June. US presidential candidate releases AI policy plan

Former Texas congressman Will Hurd is the first Republican U.S. presidential candidate to release a formal policy plan on artificial intelligence, The New York Times reports. In the plan, Hurd calls for AI to be used more widely, including employing tools within federal agencies to make the government "more responsive to the needs of everyday Americans," while also supporting industry regulation.
