TikTok files to block Montana ban

TikTok filed with the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana to have a Montana law banning the social media platform from the state blocked by 1 Jan. 2024, Reuters reports. TikTok is seeking to have its case decided before the law's effective date at the start of the year, when the platform would be vulnerable to a USD10,000 fine for each in-state use of the app.Full story

European Commission proposes rules to strengthen GDPR enforcement

The European Commission is proposing new "concrete procedural rules" to strengthen EU General Data Protection Regulation enforcement in cross-border cases. The proposal harmonizes requirements for cross-border complaints, gives parties under investigation the right to be heard "at key stages" including during dispute resolution, and streamlines the dispute resolution mechanism.

Sweden's DPA issues Google Analytics enforcement actions

Sweden's data protection authority, the Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, issued enforcement actions against four companies for over unlawful EU-U.S. data transfers using Google Analytics. The IMY fined two alleged violators SEK12 million and SEK300,000, respectively, while ordering three of the four companies to immediately halt transfers using Google Analytics. Full story
