Retired justice calls out DPDPB government exemption

Retired Indian Supreme Court Justice B.N. Srikrishna said proposed government exemptions in India's draft Digital Personal Data Protection Bill cause him "great concern," The Hindu reports. Srikrishna said, "The draft gives too much margin to the government and does little to protect individuals' fundamental right of data privacy." He said the proposed exemption could empower government actors to invade citizens' privacy and called for an independent data protection authority in the final version of the bill.

Brazil's ANPD issues first sanction for LGPD violation; Colombia imposes largest fine to date

  • In its first sanction under the General Personal Data Protection Law, Brazil's data protection authority, the Autoridade Nacional de Proteção de Dados, fined Telekall Infoservice BRL14,400. The ANPD determined the company violated Articles 5, 7, and 41 of the regulation. Telekall Infoservice may appeal the decision.
