Before she could imagine privacy as a career, field or legal practice, Lynn Parker Dupree, CIPP/G, CIPP/US, was a teenager who "intrinsically" knew her personal information was important. When she started in the field as special assistant to the chief privacy officer at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in 2009, it was an "immediate fit" that launched a career across the U.S. government and private sector — including a return to the DHS as the chief privacy officer.

IAB Europe releases Transparency and Consent Framework 2.2

IAB Europe's Transparency and Consent Framework Steering Group released its Transparency and Consent Framework Version 2.2. The central policy amendments include removing the legitimate interest legal basis for advertising and content personalization, improving information given to end-users and requiring vendors to provide additional information on their data processing activities.

Ireland's DPC refers TikTok investigation to EDPB

In the coming months, members of the European Data Protection Board will decide if TikTok violated the EU General Data Protection Regulation by allegedly mishandling children's data, Politico reports. The EDPB took on the investigation after Ireland's Data Protection Commission triggered a dispute resolution mechanism when it "failed to resolve objections raised by other European data protection authorities" while investigating TikTok.

Poll: Majority of cybersecurity experts favor reauthorization of FISA Section 702 'with changes'

According to a Washington Post poll, 64% of cybersecurity experts support renewing Section 702 of the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act "with changes." Those in support of changing the legislation advocated for provisions such as requiring a warrant when data of U.S. citizens is queried, codifying FBI changes made to its surveillance practices to better uphold citizens’ civil liberties and the EU's reluctance to approve the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework without stronger privacy protections for its citizens from U.S. surveillance.
