Minister discusses impacts, penalty scheme for India's proposed DPDPB

The Economic Times reports India's Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar indicated the proposed Digital Personal Data Protection Bill will bring "deep behavioural changes" to platforms operating in India. Chandrasekhar said businesses already aligned with proposed provisions "have nothing to fear" with the bill. He also discussed the proposed penalty scheme doesn't aim to compete with the EU General Data Protection Regulation and is "sufficient to incentivise every data fiduciary or any platform" to comply with the law.

Planned Parenthood patient asks judge to prohibit Google from collecting sensitive health data

A Planned Parenthood patient asked a U.S. District Court judge to issue an order barring Google "from collecting sensitive medical data from healthcare providers" as well as delete any data it already possesses, MediaPost reports. The patient filed a nationwide class-action complaint against the company earlier in May.

Indiana licensing board finds doctor's handling of abortion data violated privacy laws

The Indiana Medical Licensing Board found an Indianapolis doctor's handling of information related to the abortion of a 10-year-old victim of rape from Ohio violated privacy laws, USA Today reports. Dr. Caitlin Bernard was fined USD3,000 and will receive a letter of reprimand. The state attorney general's office said she shared the girl's age and state of residence with a newspaper. Indiana Deputy Attorney General Cory Voight called it an "egregious violation" of patient privacy.
