Washington state files lawsuit over telecom's 2021 data breach

Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a lawsuit against T-Mobile for a 2021 data breach that compromised the personal data of 79 million consumers, TechCrunch reports. FTC staff noted consumers are now often consciously and unconsciously interacting with AI, including customer service chatbots, educations tools and algorithmic recommendation systems on their social media feeds.

India's IT minister says draft DPDPA rules 'empower' citizens

In an op-ed in the Hindustan Times, India's Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw wrote draft rules to operationalize the Digital Personal Data Protection Act are intended to "empower citizens with rights such as informed consent, data erasure, and the ability to appoint digital nominees." Vaishnaw said the rules are "designed with simplicity and clarity, ensuring that every Indian, regardless of their technical know-how, can understand and exercise their rights."
