EDPB releases opinion on personal data use in AI model development

New Zealand's OPC publishes draft biometrics code for public consultation

New Zealand Privacy Commissioner Michael Webster released the draft Biometric Processing Privacy Code for public consultation. As proposed, the code would modify provisions of the Privacy Act, while creating specific rules for entities using biometric technologies, such as a proportionality test requirement, stronger transparency obligations and limits on use of biometric data.

Netherlands' DPA fines streaming service for alleged data processing transparency issues

The Netherlands' data protection authority, Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, fined Netflix 4.75 million euros for providing customers insufficient information regarding the use of their personal data from 2018-20. The AP claimed Netflix did not fully establish a legal basis for collecting personal data and did not state which types of personal data would be shared with third parties.

ANPD orders X to suspend training generative AI with minors' personal data

Brazil's data protection authority, the Autoridade Nacional de Proteção de Dados, ordered the social platform X to cease generative AI training with Brazilian minor users' personal data. US investigates Chinese routers' connection to cyber incidents

The U.S. is investigating TP-Link, a Chinese router manufacturer, which could have been connected to cyberattacks on government organizations, The Wall Street Journal reports. A TP-Link spokesperson said the company would "welcome any opportunities to engage with the U.S. government to demonstrate that our security practices are fully in line with industry security standards."
