New York's proposed children's privacy law could disable social media algorithms

New York state lawmakers and Gov. Kathy Hochul, D-N.Y., are moving toward a legislative agreement on a children's privacy bill that could disable the use of social media algorithms and promote parental controls for youth users, CNN reports. California attorney general, CPPA disagree on age-verification provisions of draft bill

California Attorney General Rob Bonta and the California Privacy Protection Agency are not aligned on the age-verification components of a draft bill that would increase data privacy protections for minors, Bloomberg reports. The CPPA does not approve of the age-verification provisions of Assembly Bill 1949, which would modify the California Consumer Privacy Act to require business to obtain valid consent from minors before selling or sharing their data.
