US House intelligence committee chairman proposes FISA Section 702 reforms

U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Mike Turner, R-Ohio, released several proposals aimed at extending Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, The Associated Press reports. Turner proposed enhanced penalties for intelligence officials abusing their authority, the ability for Congress to mandate an inspector general review alleged violations and allow a "limited" number of FBI supervisors to authorize Section 702 search queries.
