A survey conducted for the Federal Association for the Digital Economy found that 75% of Germans do not see an economic benefit in digitalizing their data for processing, Euractiv reports. The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China said the country needs to give definitions of what it considers "important data" and "personal information" in order to comply with China's data laws, Reuters reports. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission announced it filed a complaint against prison communications provider Global Tel Link for ineffective cybersecurity measures and failing to notify consumers after a data breach.
The Court of Justice of the European Union determined a Belgian court must review whether a man has the right to see what information the National Security Authority has collected on him. The plaintiff was denied security clearance based on past political activity, but was told he would only have "indirect access" to the data. Privacy group NOYB filed a complaint against the European Union Commission Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs for targeted advertisements related to an EU proposal to prevent child sexual abuse, TechCrunch reports. NOYB claims the EU used targeted ads on X, formerly known as Twitter, against the Digital Services Act that prevents "the use of sensitive personal data for ad targeting purposes."Full story
The Belgian government is appealing a ruling by its Data Protection Authority, which found the government's May bulk transfer of tax data of American citizens living in the country to the U.S. illegal under the EU General Data Protection Regulation, Courthouse News Service reports. The original complaint was brought to the ADP by the Association of Accidental Americans after the Belgian tax office transferred individuals' tax data to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service under a bilateral agreement requiring Belgium to report tax information of U.S. citizens living there.
EU Artificial Intelligence Act negotiations recently hit a roadblock after EU Council member states France and Germany unexpectedly pushed back on the European Parliament's draft position on regulating foundation models.
