US Senate dives further into potential AI regulation

As artificial intelligence expands into all facets of digital life, it is critical practitioners understand the differences in how countries define aspects related to the technology. US GAO recommends changes to law enforcement facial recognition use

The U.S. Government Accountability Office found seven law enforcement agencies in the Departments of Homeland Security and Justice reported using facial recognition services in criminal investigations from Oct. 2019 through March 2022 without requiring staff training. The office made 10 recommendations, including a training requirement for the FBI.

AEPD explores considerations with digital currencies

Spain's data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, blogged about data protection practices for digital currencies. The regulator said "privacy and data minimization must be guaranteed from the design" with any currency deployment and "an appropriate balance must be ensured between data protection and other objectives, such as the fight against tax evasion, money laundering and terrorist financing."Full story
