Additional companies join White House AI pledge

Eight technology companies signed onto the White House's voluntary pledge to foster safe artificial intelligence development, The New York Times reports. The companies include Adobe, IBM, Palantir, Nvidia and Salesforce. Previously, Amazon, Anthropic, Google, Inflection AI, Microsoft and OpenAI were the first companies the White House announced signing onto the safe AI development pledge in July.

Netherlands' consumer advocates file privacy class-action against Google

Reuters reports two consumer advocate groups filed a collective action against Google's data privacy practices and real-time bidding. The Netherlands' consumer association Consumentenbond and the Privacy Protection Foundation claimed Google carries out "constant surveillance and sharing of personal data through online advertising auctions." The groups said 82,000 consumers have joined the suit thus far.Full story

Parents urge US Congress to 'abandon' KOSA

More than 100 parents of transgender teens are calling on Congress to "abandon" the Kids Online Safety Act, MediaPost reports. The parents say the proposed legislation "would make our kids less safe, not more safe." They added, "We are imploring you to abandon KOSA, which is deeply flawed and faces overwhelming opposition from human rights, LGBTQ, racial justice, and civil liberties organizations."Full story
