US Senate committee could address several tech-focused bills in the fall

The U.S. Senate Commerce Committee is expected to work on several pieces of legislation related to technology when it returns from its August recess, The Washington Post reports. U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., said legislation could include a bill to ban children under age 13 from accessing social media. Other legislation could address regulations surrounding foreign-owned social media platforms, such as TikTok, and artificial intelligence.

Children's privacy bills advance through US Senate committee

The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce advanced the Kids Online Safety Act and the Children and Teens' Online Privacy Protection Act, in a move lawmakers called "critical" in addressing a "sobering" crisis.
