Indonesia nears passage of PDP bill

Under Indonesia’s pending Personal Data Protection Bill, data operators could face five years in prison or a 5 billion rupiah fine for violations, Bloomberg Law reports. Parliament could pass the bill in short order. The PDP bill requires consent be obtained from individuals for obtaining personal identifying information with an agreement stipulating as to how that data can be specifically used.

Tanzanian Parliament expected to receive Personal Information Protection Bill

Tanzania’s Personal Information Protection Bill is expected to be read in Parliament for the first time by the end of September, according to Information, Communications and Information Technology Minister Nape Nnauye. Nnauye said once the bill passes in Parliament, it is expected to be signed into law by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
