Moving, storage company reveals data breach exposed customer driver's licenses

U-Haul International revealed a data breach potentially exposed customer "names and driver's license or state identification numbers," Bleeping Computer reports. In a draft letter to consumers, the moving and storage company said the breach did not affect credit card information. The company discovered a breach of the customer contract search tool July 12 and found some customer rental contracts were accessed between Nov.

Roundup: G-7, New Zealand, China and more

In this week’s global legislative roundup, G-7 nations met in Germany to discuss improving international data flows among the member countries. New Zealand police were investigated for allegedly photographing members of the public illegally. Two U.K. government departments were cited for their late reply to public information requests. Hong Kong companies are now required to comply with China’s cross-border security assessment measures. And the European Commission will introduce the Cyber Resilience Act.

ADGM, Israel agree to MOU for data protection; Phillipines-Singapore renew DPAs' MOU

  • The Abu Dhabi Global Market's Office of Data Protection and Israel's data protection authority, the Privacy Protection Authority, agreed to a memorandum of understanding “to facilitate mutual understanding of the legislative, procedural and information technology frameworks in their respective jurisdictions in the area of data and privacy protection." 

A pitch for data inventory lists

Cyber threats to data security and legal obligations surrounding privacy are on the rise, necessitating the creation of a clear, formal, standard model of data components. Ardent Privacy CEO Sameer Ahirrao says one model would be to give data its own bill of materials, just like software or any other physical product.
