Tanzania's DPA extends deadline for organizations to register with agency

Tanzania's Personal Data Protection Commission issued a reminder to all public and private sector organizations the deadline to voluntarily register with the agency was extended to 30 April from 31 Dec. 2024. A view from Brussels: European Commission's tough week on data transfers

IAPP Managing Director, Europe, Isabelle Roccia, CIPP/E, writes the European General Court's decision against the European Commission's data transfers compliance "could have significant repercussions, pending potential appeal proceedings." Roccia said the decision could be impactful for "its data transfers finding against the EU institution's practices" and the precedent it could set regarding monetary compensation for nonmaterial damages related to noncompliant personal data processing.

OCR announces settlement with company over alleged HIPAA violations

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office for Civil Rights announced a USD337,750 settlement with USR Holdings after the company allegedly violated the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act rules. The OCR claimed a third party was able to access the company's servers, breaching individuals' electronic protected health information.
