The U.S. District Court for the District of Utah issued a preliminary injunction against the Utah Minor Protection in Social Media Act that would have required social media companies to verify the ages of their users and take additional precautions to ensure their privacy, The Associated Press reports. The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner announced the completion of an investigation into the data breach sustained by medical software company MediSecure. The OAIC opted not to administer any penalties "at this stage," per a statement, adding "the possible remedies that we could obtain for the community will not be proportionate to the resources required for a comprehensive investigation."Full story
The U.S. Office of Business and Management is expected to release guidance for government agencies on acquiring AI technology and how agencies can mitigate risks with those acquisitions, FedScoop reports. The guidance is expected by 24 Sept. and will align with the OMB's previous guidance on the federal use of AI systems.
The U.K. will consider data centers as critical infrastructure in an effort to strengthen data security and combat cyberattacks, Infosecurity Magazine reports. Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology Peter Kyle said, "bringing data centers into the Critical National Infrastructure regime will allow better coordination and cooperation with the government against cyber criminals and unexpected events."Full story
The European Data Protection Board will hold its next meeting 17 Sept. The board plans to discuss potential adoption of guidelines for setting administrative fines under the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
