Japan's Personal Information Protection Commission released a report on the feedback it received on potential amendments to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information. The PPC received a response from 72 organizations and 1,659 residents that suggested potential opt-out consent methods as well as stronger protections for children's data and biometric information.Full story
The Wall Street Journal reports chief privacy officers are seeing their teams take on more digital governance responsibilities. Citing the newly released IAPP Organizational Digital Governance Report 2024, 80% of privacy teams have expanded their work in additional areas like artificial intelligence and data governance. Mastercard Chief Privacy and Data Responsibility Officer Caroline Louveaux said privacy officers often face varying, and sometimes competing, demands as new privacy and data laws emerge.

The IAB Tech Lab unveiled its "Privacy Taxonomy," which is available for public comment until 5 Oct. The U.K. Information Commissioner's Office published results of a study exploring the data controller ecosystem. The quantitative study collected the demographic characteristics of controllers, the kind of technology they use in their jobs and their view of the ICO and data protection generally.
