UK, US sanction alleged hackers for role in 14-year campaign

The U.S. Department of Justice unsealed an indictment against seven alleged Chinese state-backed hackers, charging them with a 14-year campaign that targeted foreign critics, businesses and politicians, The Washington Post reports. In conjunction with the indictment, the U.S. Department of the Treasury issued sanctions on two of the alleged hackers, as well as the front company that facilitated their ability to breach critical U.S. infrastructure. Additionally, the U.K. government joined the U.S. in sanctioning the suspects for allegedly targeting members of Parliament and U.K.

DSA, electronic ID wallets take priority in EU children's privacy work

The EU's telecommunications ministers will declare enforcement of the Digital Services Act and Europeans digital identity wallets to be a top priority for their work at an upcoming informal meeting, Euractiv reports. The two policies are seen as critical to protecting children and young adults online, according to an unreleased document seen by the outlet.

Oklahoma health care company agrees to $1.45M data breach settlement

Oklahoma City-based Avem Health Partners agreed to a USD1.45 million lawsuit settlement after it experienced a cyberattack that breached the health data of 271,303 people, The HIPAA Journal reports. The lawsuit claimed patients' health information was "negligently maintained and had appropriate cybersecurity measures been implemented, the breach could have been prevented."Full story

IAB's Diligence Platform looks to ease adtech privacy law compliance

The advertising technology industry is poised to be affected significantly worldwide by complex diligence requirements for third-party partners. To help streamline compliance efforts, the Interactive Advertising Bureau teamed up with compliance vendor SafeGuard Privacy to create its "Diligence Platform," which aims to help adtech stakeholders meet all their jurisdictional diligence requirements with greater specificity.
